I'm Mangal Kenkre, an actress who's done more than 200 Ad films, 74 feature films in multiple languages, over 70 serials and theatre. I have also featured in 11 documentary films on various social issues and since I have a doctorate in a medical subject, written and anchored a few documentaries on medical issues as well.
Apart from these, another passion of mine is designing. I have styled costumes for over 50 plays and won 4 prestigious awards from reputed Institutions and Production houses in this field, one of them being a UP State Government award.
Taking inspiration from my costume designing and bed linen creations, which I used to exhibit from time to time, I decided to start a designer brand of bed linen and apparel called Tranquil Studio. As the name suggests, our quilts , comforters and godhadis, made exclusively of soft, breathable, hypoallergenic and fade-resistant cotton fabric are designed to give you the snugness and peace that will ensure a good night's sleep.
One of the USPs of our bed linen is limited-edition and hand-painted quilts. These lovely quilts in soft colours aren't painted overnight - they're born of a slow process, each brush stroke anchored in the love of the craft itself and the joy of creating something out of nothing. A handcrafted work of art is not factory-perfect but its minor imperfections give it a more intimate human touch. Like the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi, which centres around the fact that there is beauty in the flawed and perfection in imperfection, we, in India, with our glorious heritage of handcrafts, know this only too well.
We are socially conscious at the Tranquil Studio. Our Godhadis (typically Maharashtrian quilts which are essentially layers of cloth sewn together with styled top -stitching) have been made by rural women, affording them a chance to get gainful employment. No child labour has been utilised in the production line.
Our children's line of bed linen strikes a chord in their minds because they are in possession of the characters they see around in their kid's programmes. Be it Chhota Hanuman or the beautiful Princess, these kids can snuggle in with their imaginary friends as they would with a favourite doll or teddy bear.
Since I am a cancer survivor (and have done several events stressing on breast cancer awareness), my ultimate goal is to donate a part of the proceeds from the Tranquil Studio to child cancer patients. This is my humble attempt to give back and contribute to the community.
Finally, many thanks for stopping by at Tranquil. We've always loved living in a panorama of colours and the comfort of cotton while keeping our heritage alive. We hope you too love our collection of bedspreads, comforters, godhadis and shirts and enjoy living in our colours. And, of course, the tranquillity these will bring you.
